Can anyone recommend any resources (books, websites etc) that are useful inspiration for marketing / advertising campaigns? More in terms of the actual ideas / concept side of things.
Whenever I look for any books or websites relating to it, all I get is more 'world class' or 'award winning'...
Thanks for the responses!
Scotty — I kind of work alone, but a lot of the work I do is for design agencies (either onsite or remote). Having other people to bounce ideas off would be good, but I do need to improve in certain areas myself (mainly just the ideas side of things).
Paul — It kind...
I've been working as a freelance graphic designer for several years after graduating. I seem to do okay in earning a half-decent wage whilst working on quite fun projects that are good for my portfolio.
I have no problem when it comes to making things look aesthetically pleasing, however I feel...
Thanks! I had a feeling it may be something like that.
A lot of my freelance work already comes from agencies, I may try and push the 'contracting' side of things and offer to work from their premises every now and then instead of my own.
thanks for all the responses! That's helped clear things up a bit.
So if I had one font used in a logo, then another (e.g. a display font) used for headlines etc, and then a third font for body copy... would that be too many? As I get the impression any more than 2 typefaces in a design is too...
I've been freelancing full-time since 2010, before that I was working 2 days per week in an agency (which wasn't very good at all).
Lately however, I'm thinking of looking for a part time design job again, say 2 days per week... except this time around I'd make sure it was at a half decent...
When working on brand identities, do you find it's best to choose a different font for a corporate typeface to what is used in the logo?
Say you have one typeface for body copy, and then maybe another for headings etc... should they both be different to what is in the logo? Or should at least...
I see your point! As stated I don't necessarily think they are always a bad idea. It just annoys me how so many clients (both direct clients and a lot of agencies) are set on having sliders before they've even really thought about anything else. So right from the start you know the design is...
In the vast majority of websites I work on, clients want a homepage slideshow on there. Even when I have a job outsourced to me by an agency, they want a homepage slider. I've even had clients demand to have a homepage slider containing nothing but pointless generic STOCK PHOTOS
Personally I...
Thanks, your process looks quite similar to mine. Just seems a little tricky with the larger identity projects, as I find it hard to know where to start exactly in terms of looking for inspiration
Thanks, the kind of questions in your post are already part of my research process however.
What I'm mainly referring to in my original post is the 'gathering inspiration' part. I'm just a little unsure about how to split it up exactly, or if it even needs to be split up at all
I've recently taken on a few identity design briefs... pretty much what I've always wanted really. I used to work primarily in web design but it's so much more interesting to branch out and cover a wider array of design projects.
Whilst the research phase is pretty much second nature to me for...
Cool yeah that could be an option! Thanks.
I'm not too familiar with Gumtree but I'll certainly check it out.
I need to redo my own website and everything first, but hopefully I'll get cracking on all this in about a month or so (a little ambitious of me seeing as it always takes like a year...
Thanks for the tips but I already have a few conceptual items in my portfolio so wouldn't want it to be too full of them. Could really do with some more 'real world' examples, even if they were voluntary
