As others have mentioned, I think you need to go back to square one as far as web design is concerned.

Jeez. I call myself a complete beginner, have no idea what Im doing etc. And he calls himself a web designer and graphic designer! This thread has just made me feel so much better about my ability and eye...so thanks true graphics lol!
