Prefer the white one but think it needs work. Agree with the comment about sharpening your content, with this kind of stripped back design there's no place to hide poor copy.
thanks for the feedback. My social media buttons do seem to be polarising opinion a little! We've got some user testing plan but will put you down as +2 in favour of reverting to something more traditional!!
Cheers guys
Hi,
Ownbeat have just launched the website for our client Sara Danesin Medio, a grand finalist in this year's MasterChef competition. We've created a site that tries to capture the spirit of Sara's food and roots. I would welcome feedback.
Sara Danesin Medio - Contemporary Italian Cuisine...
There's actually a lot of evidence to suggest that supermarkets have hit a ceiling in terms of profits from food retail and distribution of custom has steadied - perhaps the battle is at least a stalemate. Hence Tesco's are now opening pushing into foreign markets outside of Western Europe and...
Squeezee not sure it's that simple. We have loads of small independents in York. They don't compete on price with big high st stores or supermarkets but are flourishing businesses.
Paul, quite like the buy local analogy, it's a high profile campaign and shouldn't just stop with retail, you...
In my experience family and friends are the worst to design for but you're right it's worrying - a recent family member offered me some free samples (Bath Bombs shaped like cupcakes :icon_cursing:!!) to brand his new business and build an e-commerce website!!
Importantly, I think we all need...
Paul, great thread, it's really good to see this being discussed.
Personally I think that crowdsourcing is the most fundamental challenge that our industry has had to face and a monumental waste of creative energy.
Clearly what the Startup UK debacle shows is that we can't really trust...
Hi guys,
I know the message has subsequently changed but this was absolutely deplorable. As a community we really need to pull together, design ethically and educate our clients. I also think we need to support young designers wherever possible by giving them opportunities, through things...
@ownbeatcreative - this is mainly blog posts and design design/web stuff
@kieownbeat -personal ramblings
I'm going to trawl back through the last eight pages and add people!!
:icon_thumbup:
Enjoy! Is it the first time you've had one?
I find since I got mine - got a good deal on a Intuos - that it's sped my work rate up immensely and opened up techniques (in PS and Illy) that were just a pain in the arse with a mouse.
Let us know how you get on with it!

Hi guys,
We've recently set our own up - @ownbeatcreative
Would love to get some more followers, we're starting to blog every couple of days now on design relevant stuff.
Will reciprocate!
Cheers,
Kie
Agree with much of the above but I would add the caveat that it depends on the size of the agency and the sort of work you're seeking. For example, larger agencies may be happy with a graduate who shows conceptual flair and can work as part of a design team. Smaller businesses who will rely on...
Our blog is in it's infancy as our site is new but we'll be blogging on hot topics in marketing, web and graphic design - some tuts too when time permits!

Hey Blackcat.
Answer is both as I think in many ways it's the cross functionality of the Creative Suite that makes it so industry leading.
It's good drills to use Illustrator for things like logos because of the vector format - scalability etc. That said, I'll often work between the two...
