Website Feedback Please

Hello

I would like to gain some opinions from fellow web designers / web design companies on how my new website is interpreted to them. I want to create a members affiliation website identifying a small selection of expert designers to place their banner adverts on the site to give visitors direct links to expert web design services from all over the world.

Please give feedback on this website - Making room for Web Design professionals. Banner Advertising Members Website UK

Is it easy to understand the concept? are the joining instructions easy to understand?

Many Thanks

Tony

Errmmm.... I must admit to being slightly confused. I understand the joining instructions as they are clear. What I don't understand is why I should advertise with you? I see features (have a banner), what I don't see is advantages or benefits. What are you doing to earn my meagre advertising spend? What are you doing to get prospective clients to the website? Who will see my banner?

I'd ideally like to see 'we get 5,000 visitors pcm' and 'we are spending £5k on adwords to generate footfall'.

When my business partner and I sit down and have our six-monthly 'where do we spend our cash?' discussion, this wouldn't even make it onto the table as a viable proposition as it stands.

Sorry to be a bit negative but we are your target customers so you're gonna hear it at some point.

I have to agree totally with Corrosive on this. I cannot see any way we would choose your site to place our banner, I just wouldn't expect a great ROI from it to justify the investment.

I am aware of the 'missing' figures to show popularity and ROI, but thanks for the pointers - I will have to really publicise and promote this now to be able to get higher footfall and impressive numbers. You both have been a great help - if I offer some free spaces to start with, do you think people will be interested in providing a link back?

Sorry but at present, I wouldn't touch this with a shitty stick. The design isn't particularly nice to look at, and the typography is plain and boring, so much so that I didn't even want to navigate to the other pages.

If I came across it I'd just disregard it as 'spam, or one of those sites that people set up to get some easy cash with minimal work, like the old 'pay per pixel' advertising sites.

Maybe a simpler layout would benefit? A simple blurb that simply says what you do and why it's useful to developers would be a good start, followed by the advertising. When people are intrigued they're more likely to want to know more and will check out your other pages.

The word free is always attractive. People may very well be happy to supply a reciprocal link. You can only try it.:icon_wink:

Trying to be a bit more constructive. The first thing to do is get rid of those tile backgrounds you have, I'm sure some older members will still have them in their homes, just joking. Why not have a background that is less 'amateur' and have something that looks like its a professional design, preferable your own!

I'd also add some interesting text which needs to constantly change, topics etc. and not not just have a set of banners of different sizes making it look boring. Why not categorize the banners with some form of heading, again this can be changed constantly.

Remember who you are trying to attract. Your site the way it is now will only invite warranted criticism.

It does look early-90s but then that's entirely consistent with the business model which appears to be based on the assumption that everyone's a bit confused by this new internet thing but they're pretty sure they'll make loads of money if they can get their name on it somewhere... I'm afraid you might have missed that particular boat.

Oh - and 0.60p a day isn't the same as £0.60 a day: one's too expensive for this service and the other is waaaay too much.

Awful design, wouldn't give the thing a second look, not entirely sure what it's all about to be honest, some sort of get rich quick scheme on your part?!

Agree with previous comments about the poor/dated looking design, and just want to add that there is display problems in Chrome, Firefox and Opera browsers.

Hi Forum Members

I have to agree with most of your comments regarding the website WEB DESIGN ROOM. One misleading point is people thinking it's a 'get rich quick' scheme - it's unlikely to make me rich when the most expensive space is £18!

The whole idea is to benefit fellow professional web designers by putting them in direct contact with potential customers looking for a professional service, making sure the customer doesnt fall into the hands of amature web designers.

The website was literally thrown together in a rush - just so I could use the free Adwords offer for that month really :) Anyway I have alot of work to do on the plan for the site, but I have taken everyones comments on board and changed the design, and corrected all of the coding errors - have a look see what you think - Making room for Web Design professionals. Thanks

Oky doky, I apologise for my "get rich quick" comment :icon_biggrin:

The design is looking better (although not great just yet). I do wonder - who decides whether the companies advertising are "experienced and skillful"? Also I'm not aware of any accreditation for good web designers so I'm not sure "accredited" is the best word to use either.

Regarding the design, it's very text heavy at the top there, I would revise your use of fonts, it would be really nice to get more imagery on there although I guess once all the advert spaces are filled that might help, your twitter logo is almost invisible, and I can't seem to figure out if the design is keeping to any kind of grid (design 1.0!)

Okay - not exactly 'get rich quick' but certainly make money by selling something that has barely any quantifiable value to either customer or client. If you sold all the empty spaces on your front page my very rough maths says that you'd make about £5k pa for something (and I take this back if you can demonstrate to me that I'm wrong here) that looks to be based on empty promises and wild optimism.

Dave, your reply dosen't seem to be helpful to me in anyway - all you're doing is putting your opinion across and at the same time being as negative as possible. If people don't like the website or the concept, then don't advertise on it, everyone has different opinions. I'm not going to try and justify my pricing for the website advertising when it's still in it's early stages of promotion, and I'm not looking to prove anyone wrong - I don't believe I'm wrong.

Thanks for your earlier feedback.

your site has no PR at all, - ie looks very new. You should rather create something of use (like a forum or directory) and then sell advertiszing,

my eyes hurt from the background image tbh.

good luck though

Okay: early days and all that but if you can demonstrate to me how a) you'll properly assess the quality of my work and my general integrity as a supplier, and b) get the right sort of people visiting the site in sufficient numbers to be of value to my business, I'll be one of your first clients.

I can see how you might view my previous response as unhelpful but I'd counter that those are exactly the criteria that need to be met if you're going to make this of any actual value.
