Your favourite body fonts?

On the web it's Arial (12,13, and 14px) and Georgia. For print Avenir is my all time favourite.

I like to use Helvetica for body at size 16px (or 1em since I use 100% for the body element).

I think it only looks bad at small sizes. As long as its 13px + then its cool.

for a serif, put Palatino before Georgia in your font stack. Looks nicer and isn't used everywhere.

Oh really? I must say I don't recall having any issues with type on XP either. :lol:

I think it's a very subjective view. Some love Helvetica for body, others hate it. I personally don't see anything wrong with it, be it on a Windows machine or a Mac.

Well you can't argue with the rendering of Helvetica on a PC, that's not subjective.

Yeah but you have to admit, XP's font rendering in my example is pretty shoddy. Fooking MS

Did you have that ClearType thingy turned on? (Or whatever it was called.)

Nah because (ironically) that renders the OS fonts horribly. ClearType does make web fonts much smoother, but it doesn't handle its own OS too nicely at all. I need a Mac.

Okay. Well Helvetica looks fine on my machine. But maybe that's just my perception.
