Never have I been this confused!

Although they're trying to push Golfing and Surfing through that brand, would they really want to tie themselves down to just those two activities?! Maybe something a little more 'generic' and less targeted towards 2 particular sports would allow a little more scope with their offering and target offering. Use the other elements in their marketing etc. to be targeted, keeping their logo representative of their brand but not limiting themselves...
 
That's a tough one definitely. How simple does your client want the logos to be? If he doesn't mind a bit of complexity you can incorporate silhouettes of a golfer making his swing and a surfer doing his thing onto the logo. The hard part is finding common ground between the two.
