The Bank of England has just announced that the Base Rate will stay the same at 0.50% (9/7/2009)

See the last 10 years Bank Base Rates in the UK

...1997/1998 must have been hard times for people with mortgages!

Interesting figures. Where do you all think it will go in the future? It is obviously impossible to predict.
We've just secured our mortgage for 4 years at a great rate but i don't know if we have secured it too soon.
Although there are green shoots in the economy and the housing market are confident that it is stabilising, i think come the Christmas period (essential for the high street) I can't see people spending which will hit more businesses and jobs. A similar thing happened in 79 where the economy showed signs of coming back and a few months later it was back in recession.

I'd be interested in your thoughts.
