Text fade in fade out

Ok everyone :)

I want to have just some text changing on top of an image (currently the text sits in a DIV) is there any way of just changing that text by fading in and fading out the text with other text? Very similar to a dynamic slider but just for changing a few sentences of text.

Any ideas?
 
css3 transitions should be able to do it iirc, I've done a change of colour on a background using transitions: background on my new site. It doesn't work with all browsers though due to css3 not being ratified etc
 
hmmm not really very easy to do then :( especially if I need it to be viewed by everyone :(
