Macbook Pro Alternatives

Hi all,

Looking into getting a Macbook Pro with the spec below - before i remortgage the house do you guys have any alternatives you can suggest.
  • 2.3GHz 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i9 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz
  • AMD Radeon Pro 5600M with 8GB of HBM2 memory
  • 32GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory
  • 1TB SSD storage
Looking to use this as a desktop connecting to two 27" Monitors.

You really don't need a Mac to use those Apps. The programmes are cross-platform.

You'd get a far better deal and better computer using Windows.
The only concern would be some fonts may not work from your previous Mac files.

But that shouldn't be too much of an issue as most fonts are OTF and work cross-platform too.

How much are you paying for that Mac?

Best part of £3500.

Ok comes in cheaper - not including monitors - was that included in your Macbook Pro spec and price?

Sorry, the price i've been given for the above spec comes in at £4,300. Down to £3,900 with education discount!!!

Honestly for £4300 I'm pretty sure you could get a desktop and a laptop/tablet that could do what you're after, even more so if you're prepared to build the pc yourself (or pay a little extra to have it made).

To put it into perspective 4-5k is what I'm looking at for a ryzen based 16core 32thread, 128GB ram, geforce 3090 (£1500 on it's own) based desktop with loads of ssd storage .... the difference is I do heavy duty 3D work and require a hell of a lot more spec than that macbook has.

Also don't forget that you're buying an intel mac when apple are about to transition to arm as well....

If I was in your boat, I'd be looking at exactly what I'm going to be using the laptop for and see if there is any other way of working which might be better suited... if you just want to use the laptop to show work to clients rather than working on site, would a tablet+desktop be better for example?
