Is it wrong to tell how much you earn?

And why?

I want to share some data in my blog because other artists might also want to make money online as illustrators and maybe my personal experience can give them ideas.

I'm always careful not to share exactly how much I earn because it feels like some sort of taboo. But is it in fact harmful to me in any way to have others know my exact (and honestly not high at all) amounts?

What are your thoughts?

It is a bit taboo but I don't think so in the way you intend to do so.

I think if you were to come across as boasting then that would be different.
There are salary surveys for creatives on the net but I think that's more of an anonymous kind of thing.

But there's always people out there wanting to know "what's the average cost for X?" Marketers and 'passive' income bloggers are always posting their earnings to show that the ebook they're selling works. I think they're often bullshit but they sure as hell draw in the crowds.
 
I like the barter system.

I've done skill trades and also been paid in the following:

Huge slab of Belgian chocolate.
Vans and Converse shoes.
Roofing sheets and fixings.
Muay Thai gym membership.
Whisky (I like whisky) ;)

There's more that I either can't remember or post on a public forum.
