How can I recreate this?

I'm working on a job right now which needs to fit within a campaign. The images on some of the other collateral look like the one below. How do I get this look? I thought if I turned a colour image to grayscale and then added the red it would work but it doesn't. Couldn't get it to look like this as a duotone in photoshop either. I remember years ago in my Quark XPress days you could colourise a tiff from the colour palette within the programme. Just wondering if you can do something similar in InDesign CC and that's how its been created. Any ideas?

In photoshop - rectangle over the image - then set it to multiply.
Probably has the opacity lowered.

I'm pretty sure there's numerous ways to do it in Photoshop - Photo Filter and Layer blending for starters.
Start with your black and white image in RGB mode.

I'd use a Gradient Map adjustment layer personally, one colour set to black, another to red. Then you can play around with the sliders to mimic adjusting the contrast of the image.

I used Ps for this, with layer blending, its quite easy, I did it, but I newbie in Ps

I use this technique at least 2 times a week lol
