Fonts on websites

I cannot wait for the day that IE6 is gone, all browsers support everything, and all fonts can be used on the web without hurting accessibility and people being able to nick the fonts etc.

Hopefully it'll happen before I retire! :D

@Harry: I haven't played around with @font-face yet but planning on using a font from The League of Moveable Type for my new portfolio site. Is it possible to get it working across all browsers without dodgy hacks, and hurting accessibility etc.?

It's been supported since something like IE4, certainly since IE6.

However, I wasn't meaning that @font-face had been round for years…
The 6–8 months thing you said basically implies that the accessibility issues haven't been issues at all until recently.

Well no, but what I was trying to say is that image replacements were the — may I say —*uncontested solution up until six or eight months ago. Am I right or is that statement too superficial?

Yes and sIFR and perhaps even Typeface but they weren't properly selectable. And from what I had/have seen, it didn't seem like a widely adopted method.

Kinda. There is no right way of doing it, even now. But @font-face has been round for yonks.
