Anyone enjoy a client watching you work?

I have one particular client that insists on me coming to see him with my laptop to 'go through some ideas' with him.
Essentially he wants to sit and watch me creating artwork while he gives me his input.

Who actually enjoys this?

The joys of not being able to do that :p

Basically I wouldn't want to do my 3D work on a laptop, so I don't have one that is capable of running my 3D programs....

Simple solution for you is to not have a device that can run said programs when with the client....

I said that my laptop was having some issues, and he asked if I just needed access to a computer. I told him that I use specialist software, which I do.
Still wants me to come in and try :(

Can't think of anything worse than that!

I would just say something like it would make the whole process longer that way and you're trying to keep his costs down.

Used to get caught up in it - didn't mind it really got paid 8 hours work for something I could do in 1 hour. Then again it took 8 hours so it was the whole day gone.

Rather spend the 1 hour and be paid 8 hours work - than spend 8 hours on it and get paid 8 hours - if you get my drift.

I used to develop mobile applications, and sometimes all you do is tweaking some pixels from left to right (annoying, but it happens). My boss used to stay behind me and say, "A little more to the left," "No, no, too much." I wanted to punch him. And besides that, I know the pixel positioning he wanted was uneven to the screen, so I would sometimes pretend to do it and watch him say, "Yes! Perfect!"

From what I've seen, it is not efficient. It is an ego thing and also a micro-management tactic. I left that job, and I am happier now :D

Every time you do this with a client, you are de-valuing your work. People like this want to be able to jerk your chain and not pay for it. No professional and I mean NO PROFESSIONAL allows this to happen. You need to stop this now.

I work with guys who wanna watch me to steal my technique, have zero art life, drink beer for breakfast, lunch and dinner, all in a vat of zero female understanding, never a successful relationship with romance, and zero art history,
I told them my "Muse' is very fussy, and that they are scaring her away, and banned 2 of them, they looked up the word "Muse" decided
they needed a meeting, now only one of them see's me.
I wish i was making this up

I relate so much with your post and all comments! I have had clients or colleagues like this and they are always the 'important' ones you can't really complain about.
I use this bad experience to answer the 'How do you work under pressure' job interview question!

As so many philosopher's have pointed out, you can't have your being in the feminine grace filled world of art,
and have your beer too.

I am lucky, I work with only folks I wanna work with, unless the money is breath taking, as I have another job and have the freedom to walk away, thank god.
The problem with all these digital program's, their dash boards are so crude and unfinished, by the time you learn them, you've gained the whole world of digital, but lost your magic spark of creation's glory. this rubs off on us from client contact as well. protect your self.
