Amazing spiral-line effect, how to?

Hi there!

Does anybody knows a way to get amazing spiral-line effect like this? I'm was trying to get this into an Illustrator, by means of "3D Revolve and ----> Map art", but the result did not impress me.

How i can get it spiral? May need a special program, such as 3dmax or after effects, or special PS brushes?

Blend tool is a good tool, thank you) But, i looking for more technical method. I want to have manipulating this. Blend tool can help to relize that of a scetch only.
