first interview ever!

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone can help me?
Well I've been applying for graphic designer jobs randomly for months and finallyl got invited to an interview yay!

I have been set a short brief that I have to complete and discuss at the interview. the objective of the brief is to suggest a more 'professional look' to two separate windows of the same product suite that are unbranded and to minimise the 'real estate' by creating icons for the windows but making sure the interface is easy for the user to customise.

I get what the objective of the brief but I don't know how I should approach it. should I design the icons and examples of graphical user interface in photoshop and print them out put them in my portfolio to show the senior consultant and managing director? should I put my sketches from my sketchbook in my portfolio?. Or should I do print outs that i can give to the managing director and senior consultant?

I really don't know how I should do this to be honest any advice will be appreciated!

I would put everything you have done for this project in your portfolio to be honest. Defo your sketchbook - this will show them how you manage your work out.

Maybe make a mock up of the final product to show them or print outs so they can see the final design.

Good luck and well done in getting an interview.

I have to agree with Sarah, showing your thought process is a great way for them to see how you think things through and end up with your end result. If it was myself i would then be tempted to get my hands on some A3 kappa board and mount my final work onto that. Almost like you are pitching some work to a client. I think enthusiasm in Graphic Design goes a long way.

Good luck and let us know how you get on

I agree totally. You have to think of it as you are selling it to them. And your selling yourself to them.

First of all many congrats on getting an interview

Second of all sketchbook in my opinion is most important, showing you can develop ideas from scratch is a must, put in alongside your best work.

good luck, keep us posted

Many thanks for the advice! it was most appreciated. interview went pretty smooth, showed them my design concepts for the browser windows and icons in my portfolio. The managing director liked one of my icon designs a lot!:icon_biggrin: should found out if I get a final interview in a couple days.

To be honest i'm just happy I got the opportunity to show work i'm proud of!!
