Hi guys,

A website I am involved with is running a challenge to get users to design a logo for the site, with a prize of £200. The winner also goes through to the final which has a greater prize (yet to be announced).

The site is skilloff.com and the challenge details are below. Any questions, please shout.

Warm regards,
Afi

When we setup SkillOff we made our logo pretty basic so we could setup competitions (like this one!) to get our users to design the SkillOff logo!

We will run four SkillOff logo design challenges this year and the four winning entries will go through to our logo design final!

So, here is your chance!

The rules are simple!

1. Make a great SkillOff logo!
2. Upload it to this challenge!
3. The SkillOff panel picks the winner
4. Win £200
5. Go through to the logo design final!

You can draw the logo using anything! You can use a pencil, a paint brush or any software! It is entirely up to you!

You can save yourself a lot of time and effort by just using the money you'd spend on prizes and actually just hiring a designer. You'll get a better, much more polished outcome at the end of it too, though I suspect the four competitions are an attempt at drumming up interest in the site?

At least there is actually a prize worth having.

Thanks for your thoughts, Paul. We do want to drum up interest in the site but we do believe the competition will give us a diverse range of ideas on logos. Right now we are unsure as to what will work and what won't, so we want people to enter the challenge and give us their thoughts and ideas. Besides, it will be fun too! :)

Warm regards,
Afi

Without paying for that diverse range of ideas?

The four competitions + final will be a substantial amount of prize money. The winners will get a lot more for a logo than if we just came up with an idea and paid someone to do it. Also, the competition is open to everyone, not only graphic designers, and is aimed at being fun. Of course, there is no obligation on anyone to enter! :)

from a marketing perspective, the OP is right. it is a good start to getting awareness, people signing up to you facebook page, leads, etc. I did the same for my clothing line, I arranged for a logo design competition and gained a few important leads for my e-mail marketing campaign
