Infographics?

Hello!

Just wondering what your opinion on infographics is?

I like the idea of taking information that can be pretty dull and using Graphic Design to make it interesting, and making people take notice, but ultimately I do find them boring (maybe I'm doing them wrong, lol)

Anyway, are they a useful thing to include in a portfolio? Is it something prospective employers want to see?

(Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question. Wasn't sure)

Thanks in advance!

They can look impressive if done really well, even if it's just to show off your layout and colour choice skills etc.
The best ones usually include some form of illustration, so that's another skill to portray. Bear in mind there's a lot of information to find first.

I agree.
I think the information research is sometimes what I find boring lol. It has to be absolutely correct, and when you have websites telling you different things, it can prove difficult.

I once had to design an infographic at Uni for a local business; it was to let employers know how much money it costs the company when they are a few minutes late. It was honestly the most boring thing I've ever had to design. And it took the guy about 5 months to decide which he liked.

Surely, that’s the point of our job. Let’s face it, probably about 80% of the hard information we deal with on a daily basis is pretty tedious when you break it down. It’s our job to communicate it in new, imaginative ways.

To communicate to employees what is important to the boss so they can see it from his or her point of view, on the face of it is boring, but it could be quite an interesting challenge to change the way people behave by the way you ‘say’ something, I’d have thought. There are a few ways you could do that which I can think of, off the top of my head, which could be fun, without patronising the employees.

Client procrastination; now that’s tedious and boring!

When was the last time you looked at an infographic? Can you even recall the details (or where you saw it)? There are zillions of the things but I can remember any of them.

Make one if you want but not sure people will get excited about it.

The brief for it was simple, to the point and little-to-no illustrations. So it didn't allow much room in the way of creativity or imagination. Anyway, I must have done something right, because the guy loved it. Just wasn't the most interesting thing I'd ever done.

I saw one about ocean pollution; it was actually really good. That's probably the only one I remember vividly, lol.

Hi Ajpeacockdesign,
Infographics has its own place in modern professional world. No doubt, the information which is pretty dull becomes interesting and inviting using Graphic Design and this is what infographics is for.
In internet and offline world, nothing is displayed without the touch of infographics.
A picture can say more than 1000 words. I appreciate your idea of including infographics in your portfolio, it will bring you credit one day.
Moreover, when you feel it boring, take a little break and restart again.
