MacOS Sierra

Installed the new OS last night, albeit getting tired of having a new OS every year! I start getting comfortable with a new OS and before I know it, another 'new' OS is out. Just goes to show how time flies.

Anyway, I like it, it's nice and handy having Siri on my Mac, especially after upgrading my iPhone after 4 years from the 5s to the new iPhone 7. It's also nice having everything synced up seamlessly on my two main devices.

One thing I did notice when I turned on my Mac this morning is that it took about 30 seconds longer to fully start up than usual. This could be the OS settling in, as I had only installed it last night. But that is just me nitpicking, not exactly going to lose sleep over an additional 30 secs.

Still have the same issues that I had on El Capitan with Adobe Photoshop's tools, where clicking and holding the chosen tool icon no longer brings up the additional, alternative versions of the clicked tool, instead, these reveal once you release the held mouse button.

Also the same delay with Adobe Illustrator colour picker in the colour picker window (I made a vid about it in a previous thread: http://www.graphicdesignforums.co.uk/threads/adobe-illustrator-colour-picker-has-slowed-down.11428/)

Again minor issues but I like things to work as they should.

Apart from that... *thumbs up* I guess...

What are your thoughts? Anyone upgraded yet?

I never upgrade unless I'm absolutely forced to by Apple. I just don't like the gamble of it messing up and having to Time Machine back a day. I'd rather pay £25 quid for a new optional, stable OS every few years than a free upgrade what seems like every 6 months that normally causes an issue somewhere. I also see little point in having Siri on my Mac since I personally can't imagine ever using it. On a phone, maybe, though I have an Android phone and have never once said "Ok Google…"

I also don't want the neighbours hearing me vocalise my Google searches…

No, I won't be upgrading until it's supported by Adobe.

At the moment, with a Windows 10 update that kills the print to PDF function (which is handy to have sometimes for various reasons).

Like all software/hardware, I tend to let it sit out in the open for about 6 months before updating.

Same with Adobe updates, I'd never update in the middle of a project. In fact, recently finished a project, and then I upgraded to the new version of InDesign. About 2 weeks later I had to go back and tweak the signed off version slightly, only to notice that all the images were missing. Figured out it was the update, and when you apply 2 inner glows as an effect the images disappear.

I've reported the bug, and they're working on it, but it's still not fixed.

Anyway - I tend not to update too early.

I thought I was late with this upgrade haha!

For once, I would actually recommend upgrading to this, there are nice little subtle features I am accidentally coming across as I use my Mac. For example, if you slowly move two windows together, and try doing the same thing at speed, you can almost 'feel' the difference as they sit together flush, or overlap, depending on the speed of movement. May sound silly from my poor explanation but it's a nice touch!

Siri is actually really helpful funny enough, especially when multitasking. Earlier today I was working away, and remembered a file that I needed to bring up; I couldn't remember where I saved the file, so instead of stopping my work flow, interrupting me in my 'zone' (haha) to search for the file, I just asked Siri to find the file for me while I continued working away. I find Siri on the Mac more useful than on my Phone. Also, Siri has quite sensitive ears, a bit louder than a whisper and she'll hear you, so no worries about the neighbours.

I really couldn't be that arsed about talking to my computer/phone. My files are really organised and I can find stuff quick enough when needed.

The only time I find it useful really is in the car, when I need to make a call, or get the maps to redirect.

I can do this through my Samsung Tablet already, and it's quite handy.

I'm sure it has lovely touches, but the aim is to break €60k this month - and I really can't afford to upgrade until I'm 100% certain on it.

If I say hey siri, my phone and my mac start talking to me.. neither of them give anything like the answer I need, EVER!! siri truly is stupid. I've installed the google app on my iphone so I can say 'ok google' and get a half sensible answer to my question.

I haven't had any issues with print to PDF on windows 10 pro x64.... done a load (I know they'll work on the school hardware) while knocking out some school stuff for my Mum.

Wait a minute... Siri does not respond to 'Hey Siri' on the Mac does she? If so, how do I set that up? That would be even more helpful than the current keyboard shortcut.

I am really impressed with Siri, if you don't ask ridiculous questions like 'How long is a piece of string', 9/10 she gives you the correct answer, she'd probably given wittily answer the 'How long is a piece of string' question! I am loving having Siri on the mac, being able to get her to do things without me interrupting my workflow just bring multitasking to a new level. It's like having my own PA.

youve got to have already opened siri but if you ignore her for a while and start with hey siri, she bursts back into life.. although I just tested it with "Hey Siri" and it responeded "Hi Own.".. fuck knows what its on today!! lol

She doesn't respond to Hey Siri at all on my mac, only on my iPhone :(. Nevermind

It sounds like your Siri is broken :ROFLMAO:, are you sure she's set to the English language? Or maybe she just can't understand you, so she's having a stab at what you are saying and hoping for the best haha :D
