I think basically that the only way you'd ever be threatened by a 'bedroom designer' ( hate that phrase, but as it's been used already I'll carry on) is if they're your direct competition, if you're both after the same clients.
However they won't devalue the industry, there's no point worry about them. 90% of the money in the web business is spent by 10% of the clients*. The clients who go to cheap, useless bedroom designers are not valuable within the industry, so as long as your work is of high standard then there's really no point worrying about it.
