Here's a tip that I discovered recently:
If you have an InDesign CS4 document that you need to save to InDesign CS2, export the CS4 doc as an .inx file. Then open the inx file in Text Edit (on a Mac) and change a line of code from 'readerVersion=5.0' to 'readerVersion=4.0'.
You can then open the document in CS2!
I haven't had the chance to see if this works in InDesign CS5
