I have to produce a logo for a product that is to go on-sale home and abroad (UK based).

Can I have your opinions on whether I should not use words (which would be english language word) in the logo itself.

...its to settle an argument so it's very important!!

Use an english language word, but not a word that has an English bias.
Most global brands exist in that format.

Well a lot of companies change their product name to a local variant that fits the feel of the language and which is pronounceable for the people living in that area. So I think it's safe to use words, assuming that they can easily be changed. Although make sure that you have a recognizable symbol that can stand alone without the text.
