I'm working on a logo at the moment for a soap packaging project.

concept: SEX, SCRUB AND ROCK N' ROLL soap
acid blotter tabs that exfoliate on the body.
'get you clean' from drugs and your LSD trip
Using 60s prints, aiming for a retro type feel.

I am unsure about what colours to use. The background print on the box is going to be bright and psychadelic prints so i'm stuck whether to keep it neutral?

it depends on what the shape it is going to be printed on.

Google Wes Wilson, he is the master of textual spacial juggling. That isn't the best description, but I am trying.

The main thing with psychedelic art style is the way the text flows, it has to be painfully irregular.

    Random googled tutorial...

    Hope this helps.

I have actually already come across some of his designs on google recently as i have been looking for inspiration. (not realising it was him)
i can now add him into my research file ;) thanks for that.

I'm still unsure about colours to use in my logo though!

    Think bright.

The other thing to do is bare in mind that these posters/work were (atypically) screen printed, so try and keep colours to a minimum, 3 or 4 and keep using them. Build from the base up.

    Example

(this is my work, its easier to explain)

Base colour, white - in this case that would be the paper colour.
    1st colour, cyanish blue
    2nd colour, black

This is actually a good example for colour use as a principle. 2 colours that work well together, black and white, with an additional accent colour, blue.

Whilst this isnt a great colour scheme for a psychedelic poster, it is a good guide.
