am currently trying to learn joomla and this will be a medium to ask for help if i get stuck. I have installed my joomla perfectly but i just don't know where to start with the customisation.

What do you mean by customisation? Purely visual stuff? If you do mean purely visual my advice is delete every image and every line of CSS that comes with the default theme and start from the ground up. The hardest thing to do is style existing markup by editing someone else's CSS.

Delete them both at the same time.

Yeah, Joomla , Wordpress basically anything out of the box get rid of the default styles and images, not only will this give you a blank canvas to start from but its also a good way of learning the product.
