Lack of interpretation skills?

I've been doing design for a decent amount of time (I'd say 7 months) and I find that my major problem is the inability to interpret the brief. I ask as many questions as needed and review the brief but I seem to fall short of getting it "quite right." Help?

That's quite a wide gap to try and close, can you be a bit more specific?
'Falling short.... ' is this you or your clients opinion?
If your falling short of getting it right, who is laying the markers down to what is right and what is on brief? Where do you see the problem lies?

I ask the client to find examples of what they like - it doesnt have to be the same media just as long as they understand the reason(s) why they like it, from there its easier to get a visual idea of what theyre after.

If nothing else its a good starting point and better than a stab in the dark.
