How Can I Create This?

I'm working on a branding project at the moment, and the client has come to me with the idea of something along these lines when thinking of the logomark: go to six seconds in.
So basically I'm wondering what is the most effective way to go about creating so many cubes/3d shapes like this to form a broader shape of some sort?

Thanks - that was my initial thought, just wondering really if there was a more efficient way of doing it than having to go through each and every cube manually. Not so much for the final artwork but more for drafting up a concept really.
