    Hi everyone

From the stickys, I believe this is right place to post this!

I'm a graphic designer that specialises in brand identity, and I specifically work with businesses in the vintage and retro field.

Although I do Wordpress websites, I'm looking to stick with and focus on where my passion lies - design - and so I'm looking for web developers that I can work with / outsource to.

I'm basically working with businesses and offer them brand identity and want to continue to offer websites in with this.

I'm looking for people that I can call on to do normal CMS websites (ideally WP as that's the only one I've dealt with!), and especially for ecommerce websites which I've never done before at all. Zero experience in that and have no idea of the best platforms to use for it!

I'm not sure if I can post my email address here? I won't for now just in case
    Thank you very much!

How much do you charge to convert PSD's to a fully functional, up and running website?

    Hi CLHB,

The process normally starts off with a draft or even completed PSD then based on the complexity and the implementation of different factors for e.g styling of plugins to match the PSD, grid loop content displays and general mechanics all need to be considered when costing a job.

Some freelancers I work with start off by supplying a URL of a site that they like the feel of and ask me to quote based on the configuration of that particular website.

If you have anything in mind and you wish for me to take a look at it, please don't hesitate to send it me and I will come back with a detailed costing. (NDA no problem)

    My prices start from: £999.00
To make it fully mobile responsive. Extra from: £300
Built on the Genesis Framework for clean, fast, optimised and secure. I also add video tutorials to the back office of the installation (my server) which allows clients to learn how to create pages, posts and manage their WordPress installation!
Additional Benefits: Developer licensed premium plugins used or included when installation requires them.

Wow, they are high prices considering you are not doing any of the design work. 10+ years ago that kind of price would not of surprised me, nowadays that kind of work is usually cheaper, but I respect that is what you charge. It would be great to have someone like you to work with as although I can design sites, I cannot make them into functional working online websites. But at those prices, I wouldn't be making enough profit after paying your charges, so it wouldn't be worth my while.

My apologies to the original thread maker for interrupting your enquiry.

    Hi CLHB,

I wouldn't normally defend my prices as they are what they are and that is what I charge as my service is in high demand due to the level of complexity, level of skill it takes to achieve the results and the high level of service.

I think the break down in the thread is you asked:
The price that I have published is to convert a PSD to Wordpress. This is a totally different level of development and is so far away from taking a PSD, splicing it and adding it to Dreamweaver, so I would agree that if I was doing this, the price would be out of line for this type of development. However, every single one of my Custom Wordpress website developments are built from the ground up. I do not take an already built theme and customise it to fit a requirement.

Not only do I take into consideration the PSD and how it will be converted to Wordpress but I also take into consideration the future of the website and the routine updates Wordpress requires.

With the huge amount of additional extras you can apply to your Wordpress installation (plugins), knowing what can and can’t be styled to fall in line with a particular project is vital to the completion and customer satisfaction. Most of the time it’s necessary to have to style 3rd party plugins so that the design keeps it integrity. This is something I know other PSD to Wordpress developers do not offer.

Also included is how best to optimise the website for speed as this is a ranking factor in the algorithms of the search engines. With this in mind the the PSD might have elements in it where images can be swopped out for highly optimised CSS instead of bloating out the installation. This level of detail is priceless as it’s as close to building a really awesome looking website in flash that will never be found!

If you Google: “PSD to Genesis” obviously you will see me but you will also find other developers that offer this highly skilled service and you will actually see that the price I offer to you guys as forum members is way below what my peers are charging.

I do hope that this clears up any uncertainty to the price highlighted above as I believe we might have crossed wires in what I was actually offering.

Let me know if you require any further information regarding my services as I'm happy to discuss in more detail.

Blimey, square that circle if you can. Code IS part of the design. Just like the graphical elements of a website, quality of code is important. No point in you designing something that looks great and then have it turned into a bloated piece of crap by an inexperienced coder (or worse some nasty 'drag and drop' software). I know I am a fully paid up member of the coder's union :icon_wink: but marking up, styling, implementing and testing takes time and it can be done badly or well. I'd suggest that having it done properly is worth the money. Just my two pence worth anyway.

    Hi PoundPig,

Thank you for somewhat explaining the complexity of your work but as you said there is no need to defend your prices,
they speak for themselves; it is obvious we would be getting a top, high quality service as the old saying goes 'you get what you pay for.'

In addition, my reasons for what I said in my post I will quote:

I hope you don't think I was suggesting you were overcharging, I am pleased to see some of us designers/creatives getting a very decent return for our knowledge and skill sets, especially in times such as now where so many things are trying to deter us from making a living using our talents, and as a result many of us feel we (and do) undercharge for our expertise. I was just speaking from the experience I have of quotes I have been given from other people in industry, and from some people from this forum. I am sure those people would not of put in such high attention to detail as you do, as time is money.

    Hi Corrosive,

Just seen your post. And yes I agree although that is pretty much stating the obvious.

    Hi Uberbaby,

We work with a number of UK design agencies and make fully responsive Wordpress websites all the time. We like to partner with designers who are familiar with the local market, we then create pixel perfect websites for them.

We are competitive and like to build long term relationships, take a look at our site which explains our service, and if you'd like more details I can send you a presentation that covers all aspects of our business, including rates.

    Kind Regards
