Could do with some help...

Hi Guys
I am no web designer, and do not work in this field, but I believe that you can design website designs in illustrator and photoshop.
I am looking to redo my site with some new branding. If I created a design, how much would it cost to get someone to code the site? Its 4 Pages:
- Home
- Portfolio
- Contact
- Blog
I am just after a rough idea of the price at the moment and I whether it would be possible to design the site in illustrator or photoshop (or export from ai as a psd etc.)
Cheers
Ben

Now I'm no web designer but I do dabble in my spare time and I'm going to be honest here....without some knowledge of what you can do with a website I'd say you will end up costing yourself more than you want to pay. When I first started to dabble I came up with these grandiose ideas which could be done but they would take forever to implement and not really gain anything over a much simpler approach, now I'm looking at how to make my design work with a phone and a desktop display...
You've also got to take into account doing a design in photoshop/illustrator might not be the best idea because they don't really show responsive design (good route to take) very well.
The fact you've said blog to me means you'll likely be looking at something like wordpress which could cost more (the proper webbies will know)

Cheers for the response.
I understand and agree with most of the points you made. I'm just looking for an idea of the cost and will go from there :)

To be honest if it's a simple site then, for example if I were to do it, then you would be looking in the region of £500-£1000, depending on functionality and features required.

And if it was designed by a professional in that sector too (as they would have more experience designing sites etc.) -- Just as another option, would you have any idea as to what the total cost be?
Cheers

There's no way of knowing without knowing more details on what's required.
And again it depends on the individual person/agency. I know some that would do it for a couple hundred, others that would charge thousands...impossible question to answer. The only way to do it is to enquire with people.

Okay, thanks.
I will pop some links to sites with the amount of info/style if that would help.
For example. I love the animated buttons and overall style of berry's website ( http://www.love-digital.com/#closed-page) -- Ideally, something very similar in terms of style and the buttons (but obviously not a copy), so for example something like that -- what would the pricing be?
I have the brand ready etc. Just need the site.

It's just a customized wordpress theme so if anyone is charging anything over £700 I would consider it expensive.

Does that include the design and coding etc. Would it also mean I could edit it whenever. I.e. update folio and text etc. Sorry for my inexperience.
Thanks

Also, would it be possible to include a menu that contracts but is kept as page is dragged down (sorry for the bad explanation -- i.e. the same type of menu like on http://kerem.co/ that can stay (but a smaller version on the page) -- see link ;)

You're probably looking at around £300 - £400 if you're going to do all the design work. Some will charge more and some less. It doesn't require a whole lot of knowledge to build a site like this, but if you're hiring someone who is overqualified then they're likely going to charge you more.
Why don't you put together a brief for this and post it in the Tenders and Services section?

Well...
I have created the logo etc. but as I want this done with expertise, depending on the price addition. I would like the components like in http://www.love-digital.com/, and designed if possible by the person that creates the site itself, as I have a busy workload and not much spare time, but if it adds a substantial amount I will have to rethink things. In other words, how much would the price rise if they do the component design etc. But not the logo etc.
Cheers

Well the design is quite a large part of the job really, especially if you want it done properly. A lot of people just want some kind of template design which is easy enough to do but if you want a properly designed, aesthetically pleasing site that's going to cost you more. Do you want it done in a CMS too?
If you want it done properly, as a designer I would bring in a programmer and probably charge around £700, anything less and it wouldn't really be worth it for me.

I would like to be able to edit it, meaning CMS if I am correct?
I was talking to The Simulator was talking to me about it I think:

Yes that would be everything. So fully functioning CMS website running on WordPress would be handed to you.
Is it correct that a design based around components like Love Digital be made on Wordpress etc.
Thanks
(I may have further questions to anyone that responds -- but I am sure you won't mind)
Ben

You can edit any website, CMS are designed to be made editable by people who don't know any coding languages, which I'm guessing applies to this situation. It allows you to edit virtually any text on the site and create new posts if you have a blog without having to either know coding or worry about breaking the website.
I'm not entirely sure about your second question, but yes you can have a design based around Love Digital and have it on WordPress.

That would be great if I could have a design based around Love Digital, I don't know whether wordpress is good or whether there are better options... What would you recommend/create for my needs in the style of Love Digital?
And correct, I don't know about coding at this stage as I specialise in Logo and Brand Identity, so it would be best if I can change text and add blog posts without coding or breaking the site.
Cheers

To be honest with you, there are a lot of different CMS to use and for the most part they are all very good. It doesn't really matter too much which one you use, as long as the programmer is experienced in developing with it then there shouldn't be a problem. WordPress is by far the most popular, but there are plenty of other good ones out there. The programmer I work with is confident in a number of CMS so if you are interested in hiring someone else to do your site we can go over that in greater detail with you.

Yeah, I plan to have the funds and planning ready in the next few months, and would probably be looking for the site (inspired as much as possible by Love Digital without copying) to be on the platform most usable and most comfortable to work with with the programmer etc.
If the overall site had the same layout and button animation (or similar) but with different content, plus if possible, the menu that continues with the site on kerem.co, would you be able to give a rough price which I could take forward and look around at other offers, but you are obviously trustworthy on the forums etc.
Cheers
