Compile font variations into one

I work a lot with Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop and recently installed several fonts that have multiple weight/condensed/expanded variations...

The problem is that all of these variations appear individually in the typeface menu rather than as one font and then being able to select the weight etc. from the second drop down box (in illustrator for example). This just annoys me as it clutters the whole menu.

I was wondering if there was a way for me to compile all the variations of a particular font so that they will appear as one in the first menu and then allowing you to select weight from the second...

    Thanks :)
