Seems that the link is no longer valid. The name of the company is interesting, though, and it should have been a bit tough creating a logo that fit it.
Do a handstand. Look at the world from a different level, point of view, or whatever. Sometimes when the world starts looking boring and unoriginal, all you need to do is to change how you see it. It's simpler than you think.
Definitely a promising idea for a portfolio but you'd have to find a way to work around the problem of it being cumbersome to open. Perhaps keep the string but only as design and not as the actual thing which holds the portfolio together?
That's a tough one definitely. How simple does your client want the logos to be? If he doesn't mind a bit of complexity you can incorporate silhouettes of a golfer making his swing and a surfer doing his thing onto the logo. The hard part is finding common ground between the two.
You can try finding a sort of middleground between the two logos provided and see if you can scrounge up a logo that has the best traits out of the two fonts. You might have to do a bit of informed guesswork here based on the different attributes your client wants to achieve, but it's a pretty...

I absolutely adore your business cards Matthew and I think it’s very clever to have them printed in a variety of colors. I also love your slogan’s play on words. The yellow card blends a bit too much with the words, but when it all comes down to it I think they are very well done. Please keep us...
Thanks for the post dekkerfraser! I know I see a lot of people try o do really detailed pictures for a logo and it’s just too much. Things look way too cluttered and if the image has to be shrunk or put in black and white it turns out horrible.
