Graphic Design in Training

Hello!

I am teaching myself graphic design, and I would love some tips and advice for fonts and typography. I would be hugely grateful. The more I learn, the better I'll become.

Thank you! :D

Hi Radavies, what do you know so far about type, do you know the language used for spacing and setting, font types etc.

There is a lot to learn and some different terms for online and offline.

I am a trainer and creative in the North West of the UK, if I can help with anything do not hesitate to get in touch.

Hello! Thank you for posting! I know the basics, I am still learning more about it, but I am having trouble getting my head around it all, like arranging type and words together and making it work. I think it's the lack of experience at the moment, but any help would be amazingly appreciated!

Design is a language and learning can take time, keep at it, watch video online, keep your eye open for design magazines with typography as the main topic and keep experimenting with type.

You could start with looking at producing an A4 poster to celebrate a birth (yours' or someone you know ), include full name, DOB, city born, day born time etc and arrange the type with a vector graphic which encapsulates the person. as in with logo design work in black and white at first to get used to the placement and what works and does not work, consider negative space and how fonts/styles and weights work together and form balance or tension.

good luck and have fun
