You could start by asking them for a budget range or propose something like, ‘For custom illustrations and promotion via Reels and Stories, my rates start at £XX,XXX, depending on usage rights and deliverables.
Before you start find out if the budget they have matches your value.
I've turned down great looking projects that didn't add up for me, nice project, very low budget.
Consider these things.
Your Audience Reach
With your massive following (over 3M total), you're not just offering design work but also access to a highly engaged audience. That's a big value for the client. Influencers or creators with similar reach often charge thousands per post, depending on the deliverables.
Find out exactly what they want, how many designs, how many posts (Reels/Stories), and if they expect exclusivity. More content = higher rates.
Usage Rights
Will they use your designs beyond social media? For example, in ads, billboards, or merch? If so, charge extra for usage rights.
Industry Standard Rates
For influencer campaigns, rates often range from £5–£15 per 1,000 followers per post for Instagram/TikTok. With 1.2M IG followers, that's £6K–£18K per post as a ballpark figure. If you're providing custom illustrations as well, that should increase the fee further.
Your Time & Effort
Calculate the time it’ll take to create the designs and manage the posting process, and don’t undervalue your time.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions or propose a counteroffer. If they’re serious, they’ll expect a bit of back and forth.
