Indesign CS4 for magazine design

My laptop already had CS5 on it (secondhand) and so I have used that to create my magazine, but CS4 appears to be free on the Adobe website and after I broke my CS5 I am wondering whether or not to downgrade to CS4 and thus open the opportunity up for everyone to help out on the design without having to shell out.

Before I download CS4 though is it actually free? And is it good for magazine design?
 
I dont see any reason why Cs4 should not be up to the job. I am a bit surprised if Adobe are really offering it free though!
