Help! Have I made a huge mistake?!

Hello, sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place but I need some advice!

I have been creating a children's book and to help with my drawing skills and layout I have been taking images found in Google searches and drawing over them and recolouring them to suit my book.

Am I going to get in trouble for some sort of copyright violation for doing this?

Yes, unless you can somehow find out who did the original drawings and get their permission to use them.

There's nothing wrong with using reference for certain things, but directly tracing stuff you find on Google, yeah don't do that.

You may get into trouble. Alter your artwork if I was you. It will need to look different from the original. If you have traced over multiple images on mass then you are asking for more people to 'take a swing'.
