Golden Ratio Opinions?

Morning guys!

Just wondered what your opinions on the Golden Ratio is?

I know some people who swear by it for logo design, and other people say its total bullsh*t! I've listened to both sides of the arguments and both make sense, to be fair. :ROFLMAO:

That said, if you put two logos together, one created using the golden ratio or fibonacci circles and one that isn't; the first one always looks better; although they're both so similar, the one with the golden ratio always has the edge for me.

What do you think?

I think sometimes good designers will use it - but I think most of the time it's just overlayed after the design process to look like they did something cool...

Personally, I think this simply comes under the banner of 'good composition', and usually refers to photos and paintings anyway. Not many designs
can conform to it exactly and it should just come down to ones eye.

Wow, I refuse to believe Donal trump is proportionately beautiful. Maybe the golden ratio is total crap after all?

Yeah, I agree some designers do overlay it after a designs finished to make it look like they know what they're doing, or to check it fits the ratio; surelt it would just be easier to build a design using the golden ratio from the start?

Yeah I agree, I've tried. I mean the point of the golden ratio is to be able to design something absolutely aesthetically perfect, and if you can't do that to the very last pixel, then is there a point in using it at all? Who knows! I suppose it ll depends on what works best for you.

Generally, I try to work to the 'Rule of Thirds' on most compositions, which is basically a simpler version of GR.

This is one of my favourites, for footie fans only I suppose. The photo was likened to a famous painting (can't remember which one).

Oh I've seen this before, but I didn't really get it. (This was before I knew what the Golden Ratio was) Good example!

Is the painting you're thinking of The Entombment Of Christ by Caravaggio? Kind of makes me think of that one anyway

Another thread on this...

Honestly there are so many 'rules' that we supposedly need to follow that it's just getting daft and I'm sure most of us on here don't even know them all.

Some are useful to have knowledge of but they shouldn't be the only way or limit the way you design something.
