Is there a point to responsive web site designs?

I'll give Foundation a whirl Corrosive. The main reason I was using the 1140 grid was because it fits nicely into my workflow, plus the way the CSS works in nice blocks of rows makes it idea for coding into Wordpress themes.

Is there a point to responsive web site designs?

Absolutely. We work responsively with a few of our larger clients. If your client has a large mobile/tablet user base, you should consider tailoring the experience towards that market. Tablets and smartphones make up a large part of modern internet usage, as they get more powerful that market...

advice on logo for a Hackney charity

I'm not sure about these to be honest. I find the typeface on the top logo a little condescending. Though your audience is "Young people", you don't have to use a childish font. It reminds me of the "yoof" TV programmes we were bombarded with after Newsround in the 90's. The shadow doesn't sit...

    Feedback would be very helpful

I like it. The main problem I have is a lack of hierarchy. You have a column on the left holding your message, trying to compete with the Twitter updates to the right. I'd be tempted to take the text on the left and make the column its in span the width of the website's container, then move...

    Massive Favour Needed!

Hi Kyle Good start, everythings in divs, not a table in sight. Best place to start is to ask if you have a jpg or a visual of how you'd like the website to look?

Mac G5 problem? Anyone had this experience.

I second the not shutting down method. OS X runs a daily, monthly and weekly series of scripts at stupid o'clock. My old iBook G4 was probably shut down 5, maybe 6 times in 4 years before I retired it. The fan issue sounds like a firmware update. Apple like to throw in little 'tweaks' like...

What do you need to be able to do?

Creating nice images in one thing, but you need a solid grasp of a couple of basic design principles which you can apply to the web as well as print. Nameley Grid Systems and Typography. Both are huge subjects but you should probably try and read up a little on each. Grid systems form the basis...

    Inking around sketches -sexy linework

Weird, that's actually what I've just been doing the past hour and a bit, using the pen tool and a quick photo of a sketch.

    Making an E-Commerce site

Hi Oliver, Your simplest option would be to create a website in Dreamweaver and have the shopping cart as a separate area of the site, linked in via the menu. e.g. domainname.com/shop (or shop.domainname.com). You can skin it to look like the rest of your website, re-using your CSS in the...

    Portfolio size A3 or A4?

Hi gibbonell It depends on your content and how you want to present it. My print portfolio is A2 with thick removable plastic wallets inside. It's a pain to carry but I don't have to use it much (being 6ft 2 helps though :icon_biggrin:). With a large portfolio I can present an entire brand or...

    CSS - transparent Backgrounds

Instead of using the CSS opacity rule (which also affects child elements). Make yourself a 1px PNG file. and set it as the background for the container. To fix IE6's PNG issue, you can use either of these hacks: jquery.pngFix.js - PNG transparency for Windows IE 5.5 & 6 (IE PNG Fix) IE PNG Fix...

    Site and re-branding

Hi Babakoto, Sounds a bit like spec work to me. I'm not sure you're going to get too many decent designers that will be happy with producing a mockup design without first having a deposit/signed contract.

Logo - A lill Help please

I may have been jumping ahead of myself a little there. I wouldn't advise doing a whole font. Maybe just the initials. Anyways, this is a pretty decent tool for font design if you do want to dabble, plus it's free. FontStruct | Build, Share, Download Fonts

Logo - A lill Help please

I was looking for a rounded typeface for the logo on my homepage, instead I decided to set myself up a grid in illustrator and draw it myself. Much more control over the end product.

Logo - A lill Help please

I agree with Artgem1984. I'd try and shy away from using free typefaces like Sidewalk and Epoxy History (looks like you might have used Epoxy here) as the basis of the logo design. They aren't designed to be viewed at smaller sizes and wouldn't fax well. Be careful of relying on trends too...
