In need of some help! Im using bebas neue and I'm trying to find a complimenting typeface to go with it, but i can't seem to find any that match it as its quite a harsh typeface.

I had thought of using a bold serif to accompany it? any suggestions?

Try and find a font that has similar x height and kerning, width of letters and etc. this will give a feeling of homogeneity.

Try the serif fonts that are thin, the same weight, or a lot thicker - but don't go a "bit thinner", or "about the same weight" or "a little bigger" - as it will look like a mistake.

There really is no rule about it -

Setup a line of type in Bebas

Setup the same line of type and cycle through different fonts and compare it and just go with your gut on it.

I realise that but I think it works quite well

What about it makes you feel it works well? I don't mean to sound condescending, I am just interested in the way other people see fonts.

I think Georgia is like Times New Romans fat cousin.

I'm not 100% sure about it but there's just something in my mind that makes me think it works but I just can't pin what it is. I think it's the 'opposites attract' idea.
