Brochure print advice

Hi Guys,

I'm after some advice, i am currently in the process of creating a poster wrap that will house a simple bi-fold brochure, poster wrap will be A1 folded down to A4. The bi-fold will be A3 down to A4.

This where i need the advice, for my design to fit together nicely am i going to have to reduce the dimensions of the bi-fold or extend area that will house the bi-fold? I have started to design based on a reduced bi-fold. What measurements would you take off the design?

I also have a concern over the weight of paper to use i dont want something that once folded down doesn't sit right around the bi-fold, and again something that will be to heavy within the poster wrap?

Hope this makes sense as i have little experience of actually taking a design to print?

All advice appreciated,

Is this not something you can talk through with your printer? (Or am I completely missing what your saying?)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the response, i am yet to approach a printer about this project as it is very much still at sketchbook level just really wanted to see if i could get any advice from anyone out there who has done anything similar in the past.

As its my personal mailer/self promotion/cv i just wanted to get as much information as possible from resources available, and having little experience of taking things to print, i though i'd try here.

I was going to look at sourcing a printer soon with regards to pricing and turnaround time but will now look to talk thru potential design plans as you have mentioned Moomin,

Once again thanks

The simplest way to solve this problem is to get some paper the weight you want to use and fold it how you want it. Your A1 will be determined by the method you are going to use to print - which will be determined by the quantity. How many are you going for?

generally speaking your outer wrap will be oversized - other than that what everyone else said :icon_blushing:

Thanks all for the advice, i have got a prototype already constructed and will get down to the printers once it stops raining!!
