XMP Meta Data

I was wondering whether you folks make much use of XMP Meta Data*, and if so what you use it for?

I've been toying with creating a set of Automator actions to read/write meta data but I'm not sure how widespread its use is. I'd appreciate any info, thoughts, comments etc...
