Can anyone recommend hosting provider for a Wordpress portfolio site?

    I've just started using siteground.

They specialise in WP hosting and their customer support is awesome.
Also, if you go to the checkout then click away from their site they offer you a further discount. (£2.75 down to £2.00 per month)

I'm with Site5 now and haven't had any issues, aside form a few that cropped up post migration. Their support is excellent.

I always use/recommend VidaHost. Good prices and good UK support.

I second Vida, not been with them long but seem pretty good so far.

Ive used VidaHost for a few years now and they're pretty decent... although I have noticed that their respons time to support tickets has slipped dramatically over the past few months.

An associate of mine highly recommends a US based company called Flywheel but their costs make it a little difficult for me to switch as I current host about 25 sites.

I was originally with Bluehost for a number of years but switched due to them not offering UK based servers. They cost a little more than what I pay now, but I never had any problems with them and their uptime was excellent.

I have been with vidahost for 18 months and they were really good, apart from slow responses. However, over the last 2 months they have been getting pretty bad with email and websites going up and down a lot. They don't seem to be monitoring services also, so I have to let them know each time to fix things. I rang them up recently and one of the members of staff said they did not have enough staff and were struggling. So I have decided to leave. You may want to take a look at The web hosting category in trustpilot and pick one of the companies near the top like I have -

I scheduled a migration from my Vidahost cPanel reseller account to their cloud based reseller account. The migration was meant to happen yesterday (25th)...

11am I emailed to ask them when the migration would be complete and got a reply saying they'd start it 'right away'.
12 noon I got another email to say the migration was complete but when I logged in they'd only migrated 2 of my clients cPanel's and ignored the other 40+ sites hosed on my primary cPanel!!
12:05pm I emaield to point out their error and also point out that they'd migrated me to a regular cloud account and not the reseller account I'd asked for.
3pm they replied to say they'd missed that cPanel and would migrate it right away.
4pm they emailed again to say as soon as the migration was complete they'd change the account to a reseller.
6pm I email them for a status update
8pm I email them AGAIN for a status update
9pm they reply to say they're looking in to what's happened and will let me know asap.
    7:15am STILL no response!!

If I hadnt already contacted all of my clients with details of their new hosting and email credentials, I'd ditch Vidahost completely and go elsewhere

I started with Vidahost and loved them. They're still good.

But, for Wordpress specific projects, I can't recommend WPEngine enough.

I tend to go with: for smaller websites (I also run my WordPress site on there). They have been evolving constantly for the past 5 years and their customer service is great :) the only issue I have is the domain forwarding; but as I said before they are constantly improving :)
