Why is colour management important?

Can you elaborate on what you're asking here? There's plenty of online resources for colour management.

There may be some keen photographers here - so hopefully someone can help you out.
 
LOL, you're going to have to work your course work out for yourself on this one.

I could answer the first part of the question quite easily but it's pretty clear this is a course question.
