Website feedback

#1
SECOND EDIT: I was told to use a java gallery with a pre-loader for my galleries on this website and I have, why is it taking so long to load? Is my coding wrong or something?

Thanks

Feedback welcome.

Hey im new here and new to professional web design.
I have been designing/playing around with the web for years now, only recently decided to quit my dead end jobs and sort myself out a career that I enjoy.

So looking forward to learning from you guys.

First actual client website is for a Wedding Photographer.
Ive attached the links to some screenshots - its not entierly finished yet (especially the gallery) but just looking to get some constructive feedback if possible on what you like/dislike.

Be nice and thanks x

If your going down the simple, let the work do the talking route (as you should) you should also make full use of the space you have - as a photographer the key is going to be in the details of the shots, the bigger the image the more noticable the difference between joe bloggs and a pro becomes.

Try and use the majority of the screen (there must be some scalable gallery scrips out there) Also I cant reaalllyyy read the name of the photograper. The text doesnt seam to follow any grid and also doesnt suit the theme. Perhaps a border on the images as well would make them "pop" more.

The smallest changes make the biggest difference. (Brendans book of life :p)

ok first thing that stood out to me was that the colours work well for a wedding photographer, I do have concerns that on todays computers that some of the screen settings (not everyone calibrates properly) may mean the title gets washed out and lost.

the second thing and this would do my head in is to do with positioning, the images on the first link are not the same distance from the left and the right.

I'm not sure about the choice of font for the menu, it seems a little out of place (and out of line on the first page but it does match the bottom bar) in my opinion.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Its much appreciated and a great help.
I am working on changing a few things, especially the menu font as that seems to be a sore point.

This forum is much better than others I have used... Other forums tend to just rip you to pieces instead of helping you.

Thanks again x

I'm definitely missing consistent alignment there. Other than that it looks good, clean and simple. It fits the theme.

Hi Leanne, Nice looking site!

I couple of things that could be improved on at a glance...

The images (gallery at least) have no alt tags (these are used by screen readers or people who are browsing with images disabled). Put in a description of the image, this will help as mentioned above but also for search engines picking up key/descriptive words... ie <img src="http://www.designforums.co.uk/images/wedding1.jpg" alt="The bride and groom on their wedding day" />

Also you have a different page for each image link in the gallery, which isn't nessecary you could use javascript for an image swap...

Like the design - looks like a good job!

Overall I like it but theres a couple of things I would change.

I would centre the whole website so that its not left alligned as it is now. I would also align the menu further to the right as its currently indented and looks odd.

And as a side note I thought the images took a little too long to load considering their size in the gallery, have they been saved for web in photoshop (or equivalent), maybe even consider a preloader perhaps.

strange they just seemed quite large and quite slow (for me) to load.
Thanks for the link. Im just about to get some dinner so will have a look at that later and hopefully be able to change the gallery pages!! :D
