Any ideas?

.psd file that I am trying to open: Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered.

Can see the thumbnail but cannot open in PS or AI.

basically you're screwed.... no backup?

There are supposedly some tools out there that can repair it to a semi usable state but no experience of it

Customer supplied it so will ask him to take another look, luckily nothing we designed!!

ah if it's sent to you via email then the likely reason is it was corrupted during upload or their email server couldn't handle the full size. Hopefully their file is still ok.

There's a program called IfranView - runs on Windows - and it might be able to open the file - but you'll probably see it truncated when opened, depends how much file is lost.

You can then save it out of there and then crop.
