Random question, why is spam (as in emails) called spam?
Why is the sky called the sky?
Suppose to be from the Monty Python 'Spam' sketch - A bunch of Vikings in a cafe ordering food and the waitress saying she had Spam, spam, spam, spam. It turns into an whole sketch of annoying repetitive word association.
An early web community in the early 90's? casually coined and used the term as reference and descriptor to the junk mail. It's as simple as that. ( I think?)
I know NEWS stands for North, East, South and West as in... whats going on everywhere!
Didn't know that. Thought it was just because what they were reporting was "new".
Goes against that old joke: If they call current events the NEWS why isn't history the OLDS.
Origin of the term "spam" to mean net abuse
Typical Phil Answer:
Because they though the term "Satans love juice" might offend
It's from a brand of canned meat called SPAM...
But it tasted like total crap and they made a link between crap-tasting meat and unwanted email
Separate names with a comma.
