SEO Feedback

I'm definitely new to SEO and certainly have got a lot to learn, so a good start would be feedback on what's right and what's wrong with neylonhealth.com.

I realise that meta data hasn't been added, I'll add that on as soon as I've got an internet speed that's quick enough to access my FTP's.

Other than that it's not ranking amazingly well for 'Sandra Neylon', 4th currently below LinkedIn x2 & Facebook.

Any tips on what should be there that isn't and what is done right would be appreciated.

Meta data is almost totally redundant.

Content, domain trust, valuable links (quality not quantity) and structured markup should suit you quite well.

On that site you're using loads of h1 tags. You're only really meant to have one h1 per page. (h1 and SEO)

Also, you could always put some relevant* keyword text in the alt that's missing off that image.

*relevant to the picture.

Ooh, also, you're using this code:

HTML:
<acronym title="Telephone">T: +44 (0)7595-220909<br /></acronym>
<acronym title="Fax">F: +44 (0)20-8300-1724<br /></acronym>
<acronym title="E-mail">E: [email protected]<br /></acronym>

It should be:

HTML:
<abbr title="Telephone">T:</abbr> +44 (0)7595-220909<br />
<abbr title="Fax">F:</abbr> +44 (0)20-8300-1724<br />
<abbr title="E-mail">E:</abbr> [email protected]

This may help.....

A. Metadata

Page Title: Sandra Neylon Occupational Health Ltd - Vocational Rehabilitation and Absence Management
Meta Description: --missing--
Meta Keywords: --missing--
Page Title is too long

The maximum recommended length for page titles is 70 characters, your current page title is 88 characters.
Meta Description Not Found

This page is missing a meta description. It's important to add a meta description for every page on your site, the meta description is what frequently shows up under your page title in search results and convinces people to click-through to your site.

No Meta Keywords Found

There were no keywords detected in the metadata of the website.

Though Google does not seem to place high relevance on meta keywords to determine the content of a website, other engines like Yahoo! may still look at these.

Since it doesn't hurt you to have metakeywords, we'd suggest going ahead and adding them to the page.

B. Heading Summary

Similar to how newspapers and magazines use headings and sub-headings to help readers, websites can use special tags in their HTML. These tags not only help human readers read the content, they also help search engine spiders better understand the content on a page and what is most important. It is generally a good idea to use heading tags to help signal to the search engines, what the web page is about.

Total headings found: 6.

Heading Type Text
First-Level (H1) Neylon Occupational Health Ltd
First-Level (H1) Contact me:
First-Level (H1) Welcome To Neylon Occupational Health Ltd
First-Level (H1) Services:
First-Level (H1) Clients:

Second-Level (H2) Good Health is Good Business

!!! ---- More than one H1 tag found.

More than one primary heading tags ( 5 H1 tags found) have are on the page. This is not a critical issue, but we suggest having a single primary heading per page.

C. Image Summary

Images are a great way to enhance a website from a user's perspective. However, it is important to note that search engine crawlers cannot really "see" images. So, if you have lots of images that contain textual content within the image itself, this content will not be seen by the crawlers.

HTML helps address this issue by providing a way to specify the textual content for an image using the "alt" attribute. The alt attribute allows web pages to assign specific text as the "alternative" content for images for those that cannot view the images themselves. This can be search engine crawlers or text-only web browsers.
Total images found: 1.

II. Off-Page SEO

Off-Page SEO includes all the things you do to promote your website outside the design of the website itself. Getting more inbound links to your site, registering with directories relevant to your industry, and getting more pages into the search engine indexes are all parts of Off-Page SEO.

A. Domain Info

Most experts agree that you should register your domain for a long time, because search engines factor domain "stability" when looking at your pages.

Domain Age: 1 month, 14 days
Time To Expiration: 10 months, 16 days

The domain for this website is set to expire in less than a year (10 months, 16 days ).
We would suggest renewing this domain with your registrar. Google and other search engines may penalize websites with domains that are set to expire soon. The reason for this is that many spam sites are often registered for short periods of time. Most registrars support paying upfront for several years and the cost is usually only about $10-$20 per year, so it is generally worth it.

Permanent Redirect Not Found

Search engines may think neylonhealth.com and Sandra Neylon Occupational Health Ltd - Vocational Rehabilitation and Absence Management are two different sites. You should set up a permanent redirect (technically called a "301 redirect") between these sites. B. Google PageRank: 0

"Google PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves important weigh more heavily and help to make other pages important." - From Google

III. Blogosphere

Blogging makes sense from a marketing perspective. You'll be leveraging the shift from outbound to inbound marketing and interacting with your customers in new ways. A blog lets you meet your customers more directly than sending out brochures or an email campaign. It changes your website from a brochure that most people look at once to something that people interact with and come back to.

B. Conversion Form: Not Found

The web page does not seem to contain any type of signup form where visitors can subscribe to a newsletter or future updates.

We would suggest adding some type of simple subscription form (at a minimum) that allows users to get email updates. This is a great way for visitors to express their interest in the company and it's offering and for the business to stay in touch. Though RSS usage continues to increase, email is still what a majority of site visitors know and understand.

Have a read of the above and action where you can, that site really is in poor shape, however, the good news is, a little work will reap big gains!

I haven't looked at your source code in much detail, but reading Harry's comments, im sure there will be other niggles that needs to be addressed.

Hope it helps.

Geoff.

@ Geoff, that's fantastic feedback. What website did you get that from, haven't seen it around before.

Cheers Harry. I didn't know it was generally advised for one h1 tag per page.

Also, I thought I had added alt text for the image, clearly not, that will be addressed for sure.

Cheers again.

I did it as above stretching across the whole of the line so that the hover would show up what the number or email address actually is.

Good point about using abbr instead of acronym, got that one wrong.

The thing there is only T stands for telephone, the number itself isn't an abbreviation for anything. They're tricky ones, abbrs and acronyms.

Yeah I get you, but it's a technicality.

I guess it'll affect those with screen readers, but it's better as is for those without

It may be wrong, but it doesn't really matter except for the above point I assume ;)

No point adhering to 'standards' if not doing so has no faults at all.
