is there much between premiere pro and final cut?
doesn't final cut have all of the tools needed for editting up until disc production.
Premiere needs encore (and maybe after effects depending on requirements)

The overall costs work out about the same though.

I'd have thought that most people could get away with final cut express or imovie unless you go heavily into the video side of design.

yeah defo but i have it for example to just have the skill.

reason i got apple's OneToOne... becuase i get the app free, why not develop the skills?

well if you can get it for free or cheap then obviously you go for the better option, not all of us have the same offers that you get :p

Coda - Thought it was $99 although maybe wrong as tim said $60
OpenOffice - Free
HandBrake - Free

I recommend anything that is open source, please donate!

Lightroom over Aperture
Photoshop over anything
Illustrator over Corel Draw
Indesign over Quirk Express

other little goodies are:
1password
A better finder re-namer
istat menus
Transmit (FTP)
and anything that adds good functions to productivity and workflow such as free presets, and software plugins and scripts (nothing better than getting photoshop to run an action and save in 2 other formats at 2 sizes and 2 colour profiles, on 2000 images - all by it's self!!!
