Quantity Surveyor Logo

This is a logo concept for a quantity surveyor called Banah 217 Ltd.

The name of the company has been thought up by the owner so has no relevance to the trade, making it difficult to find a visual that works with the name.

One of the main aspects of a quanity surveyors job is to calculate quantities of materials used for a building project, so in keeping with this I have used the greater (>) and less than (<) symbols to create a patterned background that can adapt to be used on other stationery.

Id love any comments, feedback, critique, suggestions etc

Thanks Greg, thats a good point, Ill probably offer the client an option with and without but stress the importance of it. His logo will only usually be seen on invoices, letterheads, bus cards etc by people within the industry but I still think its a valid point to include it. I really wanted some kind of visual link to his work but without resorting to the obvious 'bricks', 'building plans' etc etc

I reallty like the banah wording, but Im not sure about the 217, or where the Limited bit should go

The 217 are numbers that mean something to the client, but I dont think he wants that conveyed in the logo. Im not sure about the Limited, he told me his company name was Banah 217 Limited, so I suppose I could drop it

Quick Update:

Ive dropped the Ltd from the logo type, made the 217 smaller and included the line Quantity Surveyor | Construction cost Consultant (this line has been supplied by the client)

Ive also mocked up a (very) rough/quick letterhead front and back to show how the symbols can develop into a full pattern, the back of the letterhead is very subtle, Im thinking Spot UV, so Ive shown a close up above the letterheads.

Just spotted this by sheer coincidence online, looks like Im gonna have to change my choice of font!

Yeah, it is a Hebrew word related to building, but the client doesnt want that to be translated through the logo/wordmark, he just likes the name. The numbers are relevant too as they correlate to a bible verse about building (Nehemiah 2 v17) but again, this is more a personal link that something to be depicted in the logo, if that makes sense!

Really glad I saw the other logo, coudnt believe it when i spotted it!

Ah Thats a shame about the other design! I'm really liking the white and yellow on the black background!
It's a really good, strong stand out design in its simplicity! Don't think you'd have to go far with a different font, something just as strong and rigid.
what font is it?

The font Id used was Avant Garde, obviously a well known san serif font. The client really wants something modern, clean, minimal and he insisted it had to be a sans serif font.
Often I use Akzidenz, Myriad Pro, Avenir etc so I was looking to use something just as clean and contemporary but a little bit different from the norm.

UPDATE:
This is a current WIP.
Im experimenting with colours that looks more "builder" like so Ive tried the brick coloured red as an experiment. Ive also attempted to show some aspects of building through logo types or use of type. The abstract B shape is made up of the greater than and less than symbols seen in the background pattern. I was aiming to make it look like the corner of a new build or something similar.

Feedback on the current direction, colours etc would be great

Hi Dave, like where it's going but on those last two the icon looks like a 3 to me. Love the background, I'd have that as wallpaper in my living room!! Could you use upright arrows like the background for the 2 A's? (might clash with the background too much) So far as colours go I like the first palette the best :thumbup1:

Thanks Tom, Ive scrapped the stylised "B" as it did look more like a 3, plus I dont think its needed. I tried to include the arrows as the A, but it didnt work as they both pointed up, and I really needed one to point up while the other points down.

This latest version uses the more than&less than symbols as brackets to draw attention to the subhead. It also uses the font Hero Light for the Banah text and Outsiders for the subhead. Id love some feedback on the font choices as Ive struggled to find something I like that is different to the Avant Garde I was using earlier. It really must be clean, contempoary, modern and minimal.

Latest version of the banah logo. still playing around with the size and placement of the 217. Ive come away from alternative font choices now back to something much more standard and contemporary (Avenir) Comments are always welcome.

Hey, sorry I didn't reply sooner.

I've got to say, the one that looked like a 3 really stood out and for me, it didn't look so much like a 3 that it couldn't be anything else. Have you tried mirroring it to create a square effect? You could always stack a couple more on and make it look more like a building - what kind of construction do they specialise in?

The client is actually a freelance quantity surveyor so he deals with a wide range of clients himself, there's not one particular field he specialises in.
He has asked me for something minimal, clean and modern so I came away from the earlier ideas because I thought they were getting too fussy.

Been working on this logo for the past few days now and things were getting a little stale. I dont know about you guys, but when I stare at something for long enough I get bored of it, I cant see the wood for the trees.

In an effort to break through this I decided to have some fun trying to mock up some stationery to see how the branding would come together and I think its really helped me get my head around what Im trying to achieve.

My main thoughts are below:

The Banah217 logo is now a simple typeface that is clean and modern but a little different from the norm (it avoids Avenir/ Avant Garde, Helvetica, Myriad etc) The sub head uses the less than and more than symbols as bookends as a subtle hint towards the industry.

The use of the less than and more than symbols plays a subtle role but words well as both a patterned background as well as a large hero shape to add interest to various pieces of stationery. Below the normal symbols are shown as well as a stylised version that can be used.

The more than and less than symbols as a background pattern

The use of green/turquoise works well with the black but should be used sparingly. Below is an overview of the stationery showing the logo in use.

Id love some feedback on all elements of the logo and branding please!

Love the presentation document.. very nice :) also love the invoice template too :)

weirdly.. I don't like it.. at least not on the flat colour as it is on the invoice, even though I like the layout of the invoice itself. I like the logo on the presentation document though.. I think it just needs something when its on a flat colour background.

Thanks Chris, I just had a good feedback session with the client on the progress so far. He isnt keen on the font choice and would prefer things to be black and white so things look more professional, he wasnt entirely struck by the minty green colour. He also wasnt a fan of the background pattern, so theres definitely still more work to be done.

Personally I prefer classic Sans Serif fonts like Akizendz and Avenir but I feel like Im really restricted by that existing logo so Im struggling to find something that is different but still modern/professional etc

Ahh I know the feeling mate.. Deal with this sort of thing all the time, as much as its painful to do, make it in the font they want and just work around it LOL.
