Problem to open the Illustrator file. please help...

Hi, everybody, i have received an illustrator file from a friend. i tried to open it by using my illustrator software. The problem is that each time i opened it, the illustrator software just stopped working. Does anybody know how to solve this problem. Thanks ahead of time.

The version of my illustrator software is same as my friend's. It is strange that the file (which was created with the same version) cannot be opened.

Here was the message that popped up each time i clicked on the file. The file couldn't open totally.

The pdf file did not work as well. I haven't tried asking them to save in eps yet. it is a good idea! Thanks for your suggestion.
