Printing Good .co.uk - Printing Bad!!

Greetings to all members

I have just registered on this forum as I believe it to be the preferred choice of forum for the printing community here in the UK?

I have recently learnt a big lesson (AGAIN!!). That big lesson is 'YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR!!

I would like to take this opportunity to warn all fellow Print Brokers and Prospective Print Buyers to think twice before doing business with a Printing Company known on the web as 'PrintingGood'.

I placed an order only just last week for a client of mine who wanted die cut flyers. I scoured the internet desperately looking for someone who can improve other prices I'd been quoted for Die Cut Flyers. I thought I'd found that in PrintingGood. I was wrong:icon_thumbdown:

The website is all singing and dancing, full of flashing images. A nice little online chat box opens up in the bottom right hand corner and you are promptly greeted by the one (and ONLY agent) Colin Butler. This guy kept referring to me as 'Dear' until I sarcastically mocked it via the online chat box to which he then promptly changed it to 'Sir'. I chatted to Colin last week through this chat box and queried him on a few things which he dodged very cleverly with words. I asked why the phone line wasn't working and was told they'd had technical difficulties? I'd asked if they were a VAT registered company and I was told they were, only to be sent a quote that had no VAT on there? I'd asked how long delivery would be and was told 10-15 working days to which I queried whether the print was coming from overseas but was assured it was UK print, but they do do have a mix of UK and Overseas suppliers? When I said that was too long a time frame, I was then assured that if I placed an order that day (Tuesday 9th August) I would definitely receive by next Thursday (18th August 2011). Today is the 18th, and I'm going to be very embarrassed to let my client know that I will not have his order ready to deliver to him. I'm going to have to offer a goodwill gesture to keep him sweet!
How do I know it's not going to come today? Because there was no tracking number given for the order? I was told it was sent as 'Standard' delivery through a courier company and they don't have tracking numbers for standard? I asked for the Managing Director's phone number only to be told he was on holiday until next weekend? How convenient! Obviously, there's no other Assistant Manager or Supervisor left in charge is there? I tried phoning and this time it rung but no one answered? Through the online chat box, 'Colin' keeps assuring me the order will be with me 'soon'? This guy literally begged me to trust their company and that I wouldn't be disappointed. I'm VERY disappointed!! I'm probably more disappointed with myself really for letting myself be talked into doing business with a company that has no understanding of the word 'PROFESSIONALISM'.

I can go on and on and there were probably a few other things said that I could mention but the fact is, it's me who decided to work with a 'Cowboy' company just to cut corners and save myself a few quid! Lesson to be learnt here is go to someone reputable, that has a good trading record, that has a gallery/portfolio of their work, and can give you details of the above mention things that I didn't get. I'm not saying that you can't trust all Print Brokers. I'm a Print Broker myself who manages Design and Print for many clients. If you're professional, your communication skills are second to none, the quality of print and finish is to a high standard, and the pricing is competitive, business will happen naturally.

Rant over!

As you say... you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

Find a variety of companies to deal with. Local and on-line. The more you spend with a company the more thay will help you with deadlines etc. I have about 3/4 local printers (some for 4 colour prestige work and a couple for simple 1/2 colour work) I deal with and a couple of digital printers also. And I buy 'on-line' from a couple of preferred suppliers. I won't buy on price. I only buy on reputation. So far so good.

Out the bad unhelpful printers!!

Anyone watched the video on the homepage?

Can't decide if my favourite thing is the superhero themed background music or the fact that when he says 'select a category from the left' he looks down and to the right.

Or maybe it's "We specialise in all types of printing."

Or the fact that the guy in the video looks a little bit like an evil Penn Jillette.

And that's before you even get onto the spelling mistakes on the homepage. "Cataloges" anyone?

Hey guys

Thanks for your comical replies!:icon_biggrin:

What's even more comical is the fact that the order has just arrived! lol

The order was in a brown 'Maggis 2 Minute Noodles' box with my address handwritten, with the senders address written directly below and yes you guessed it, it was from Lahore, Pakistan!!:icon_lol:

I'll give credit where it's due, the quality of the print was good and the die cut finish was ok too. The way it was packed in the box wasn't great with a few bent corners.

My client will be pleased that his order will be delivered on time as promised. I feel like a bit of a you-know-what for my rant now. If the guy had just been honest and told me where the print was coming from, I wouldn't have had a problem with that? I appreciate people wanting to under promise, over deliver but please, 10-15 days?? The Customer Service and communication really does need a kick up the back side and the broker/owner really needs to sort out the packaging to the end user if he want's to stay in business? For die cut flyers, the price was REALLY good, and as I said above, the printing was good too.

If he comes on here and reads this, or other members posts, maybe he'll take action and make some much needed improvements in his business. Despite getting the order on time and the price, I still will, unfortunately, not be using PrintingGood's services again :icon_crying:

I've had a look at the site now - typos abound! Stationary!
The site reads as though it has been written by a non-English speaker.
I've no problems with print and work going abroad for cheap prices if we want to have no jobs in the UK at all. We've lost most of our manufacturing (what cars are built here?) and soon all we'll have are banks (ugh) and 'service' industries. And no prospects for anyone. Let's try and keep print in the UK, please.

I agree with Kate...and I understand H4B didn't know where this job was being printed so this isn't aimed at you....but, for those that do and actively put jobs like this overseas to get dirt cheap prices, if you experience problems, slow delivery, bad customer service and poor quailty products then tough shit!! Don't come crying on here...

Sounds like an environmental disaster to me. I assume you asked if they were FSC.

Out of interest... have you had a quick look at 'PrintingGood Tower' - defined: rising to a great height.

I echo Boss' comments.

Thanks for your comments.

No, I didn't ask if they were FSC (but knowing the bullshit I was fed already, he would have claimed to have been and probably made a story up about how the site is still constantly being updated!) I'm afraid it was a massive oversight on my part. :icon_blushing:

I did see the 'PrintingGood Tower' and had a quiet chuckle to myself! :icon_biggrin:

Incidently, this morning, I decided to watch the youtube video with the bespectacled suited up guy on the website, and after the video finishes, and you get to see all the comments and likes, there were loads of comments posted yesterday saying how the videos so cool, and wow, and they want to see more? The ones that REALLY made me chuckle were the ones that said he should go 'Hollywood'? :icon_lol:

I was oblivious to the fact that my order was going overseas and I don't condone it, but equally I understand why it happens and unfortunately I believe that if the economy worsens, it will happen more and more? :icon_mad:

Hi everyone.

I can fully appreciate things can sometimes go wrong, and sometimes those things are beyond ones control? Even the largest blue chip companies out there get things wrong too?

It's how those wrongs are put right that can make all the difference.

Since my last post, I've been contacted by the PrintingGood team who are very apologetic for the lapse in their service to me. As a goodwill gesture, they did offer to compensate me, however, because I did receive the order on time as promised, and I was satisfied with the quality of the print, I felt there was no need for me to accept any such gesture. I've been assured that everything I had a 'rant' about on this forum will be addressed and countermeasures placed.

I wish PrintingGood well for the future.

I'm with Boss Hog on this one, I certainly wouldn't be using them.

It baffles me that so many designers don't use a local printer (or at least UK based) printer that they can have a really good relationship with. The benefits of this are numerous. I've been to my printers and had the grand tour, it makes me feel much more confident that jobs will go the way they should and I'm not sending my precious work to a cowboy working from his bedroom.

I work with a very narrow field of local print suppliers put together over a number of years through good personal experience and reliable, verifiable recommendation but, generally speaking, I don't honestly care if it's Lucky Best Print Shop operating out of rural China or around the corner and by royal appointment - if a company delivers everything they promise and show a willingness to react positively to negative feedback it speaks well of them to my mind.
