Photography Website Design

I just don;t think anyone else saw the problem.

I did but kept quiet lol

It's true, photography is all about image and you would expect the first page of a photographers site to be pretty in your face 'this is what I can do' otherwise that five second back button rule will be proven!

non pleasing sounds alot better and yes we all like to speak our own mind. I for one am not a person to sit back and hold my comments, Ill always say whats on my mind and have always been taught to speak up about things.

From what you have said to me about the image is very good, and you have taught me something today about how to present a person on a site. I've never dealt with a project where I have had to add a clients photograph on a website. I just felt "Ugly" was a bad word to use an because I am who I am I just felt a little "Hmmm" about it and wanted to give my own comments.

As for posting this here, then its always open to clients, I guess its the same with anyone else who post thier comments here about clients and who ask for help etc. I know this photographer is well into her designy type photo editing stuff so just could of stumbled upon it, a long shot but it could have been possible.

I know the photographer wants a photo of herself on the home page. Do you think I should use a more professional looking one or a more socialising one?

Is she definitely set on this....

A thumbnail of her leading to about me page would be adequate surely; allowing her to add her best image and showcase her work immediately ?

If I was a photographer wanting my own photo on my own site, then it is kinda expected that she should do the most amazing self portrait image of herself. She has a camera, lights, technique, training and time. What more could you ask. If she CAN'T do a great photo of herself, then how can she expect to get commissioned work. If you can't make your own stuff look good, then nobody will let you loose on theirs. You have to start selling from the very first image that you see. She is selling imagery and her skill to produce it. I would still disagree that her face should not be on the first page though ( unless it is used as sales aid - as described). Show me the work, not the person doing the work. If it was a restuarant, what would be the first thing you would want to see? The Food or the Chef? Which one converts a sale?

Hey Renniks & Levi,

I hate dark sites, and I believe this is the first Dark site ive ever done. The point of the bottom nav is that if and when the page extends they also have the option of the bottom nav so they don't have to scroll up. The body text is arial, just looks strange as the design is an image created from photoshop.

This one popped up to me as working on one as well for a photographer, he sent me a few major photographers sites to mimic, and they were all dark, its not a web designers ideal, but it displays the images better, I am talking about photographers that shoot major untouchable photographers, so your in the right ball park bro.

All depends on what the site is intended for, drumming up work? virtual gallery? I always ask my clients, what the site should do if you didnt need any money, ie whats in it for the clients, if you get that right you cant go far wrong.

I think you may need a slightly lighter font all around (links, main title and content)

Definitly use a more common font than the one you have.
a) its kinda ugly and a little difficult to read
b) it may not be installed on majority of the viewers systems

Don't like the underline of the links (the dotted line)

Apart from that its fine :)
Keep going.

Hippy x
