Motherboard supports amd hex core cpu's which are due out around the end of the month with a predicted price of £200 and comparable performance to the i7 quads, so is a good upgrade route in a year or so if you wanted :)

costly psu - I've had 2 blow on me (expensive prebuilt systems) and they took out the motherboard as well, so I always go for a trusted brand even if it costs a few quid more.

Case - space for expansion, you can go smaller/cheaper if you wanted

water cooling - keep everything cool and also adds in the option to overclock - it's only 30 quid more than a decent air cooled kit.

I'll build one using parts I don't trust or haven't used myself even though everything I've listed are things I would trust in using for a cad rendering machine, even if it does sacrifice a bit of performance.

...or go your local friendly Mac seller hand over the cash and get grafting.

Does a racing driver hand make his car....?

I've never had a Mac 'blow up' once let alone twice.

The pc's I've built haven't blown up, the ones I had built for me did, the pro's gave me crap psu's

I can't afford one. Other things take priority, hence why I have this budget. If I had more money, I'd be getting a better PC

That system looks amazingly pleasing numbers wise :) however with a monitor (even a cheap one) it'd come in at around 930-950
Hmmm... will have to have a think

(Especially with the overclocking capabilities of the 920)

Slightly off topic, have you built with the UD3R mobo before? Built a system for a friend, went through 3 of them before my friend convinced Overclockers to let him have an ASUS as I sent the Gigabytes back. Probably just my bad luck :)

The modular Corsair PSU is fabulous though. I have the one in my machine. My less than savvy friend has the non-modular version and it's a hideous beast. It's brilliant at it's job .... but fitting all those extra tentacle-like cables in the case was a nightmare ... I'm not entirely sure why they bother with non-modular anymore :p Maybe it's just to annoy people ><

well you could wait till the end of the month and see how much an amd phenom x6 comes in at, you will only be able to go to 8gb ram max versus 12 with that i7 option but the performance is supposedly equal or better. You've also got the other i7 socket option although that can work out just as expensive.

The 920 is still a good chip, the one I picked had a heatsink that was the only reason I picked it :)

Don't forget theres 2 hard drives in there and the case is a little more expensive so you could probably shave nearly a hundred off if you want. The ram is also a cas 8, cas 9 is often cheaper so you could maybe save some more there etc.

As to the linked one .... well a basically identical spec would come in at around £1000

I'm selling mine dude dual monitor setup i have run cs4 the lot on mine all at once, great machine I dont know why your system would be slow with the paint brush rendering thought :/ strange.
